Week 2 : The Bowl
Using the laser cut wooden template concentric rings, mark diameter of 230mm on the outside of the ring.
Dimensions as below:
Diameter 230mm
Diameter 180mm
Diameter 130mm
Diameter 80mm
Trim off the edges of a metal leaving 1 mm - 2 mm offset, using sheet metal shears.
Place the sheet metal on wooden stump and line up the edge of concentric rings on to the inner part of the stump. Use the narrow side of plastic mullet and hit against the lines as you turn the sheets in anti clockwise.
As you hit the second line of concentric ring, you will notice the metal sheet beginning to fold upwards. Once you have finished hitting on the lines using the narrow mullet, then you need to place the sandbag and try to flatten out the marks using the round part of mullet.
Repeat the process of hitting using narrow side of mullet to fold the metal and wide side of mullet to stretch the metal and gradually, it will begin to develop an arch. Use the English wheel to smooth off the crinkled lines and to create more roundness into the bowl.
Be careful when using the english wheel it will tend to flatten or add more curves.
Make sure you are consistently checking the radius using female radius gauge to keep on track on which radius it sits on the best. Mine sat on the radius 125.
Finished Bowl within two and half hours
